The name Mostná hora comes from the time when wood was brought down from the mountain in the 18th century for the construction of the Litoměřice bridge. The official name of the mountain, even in the times of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, was "Emperor František Josef's Highlands". After the establishment of the republic in 1918, it was renamed Výšina svobody. Since 1910, a lookout tower built in a romantic style dominates the hill.
